Long-stay visa (type D)
Visa instruction for the visa on the bases of unification of the family are bases on valid legislation of the Republic of Slovenia.
A long-stay visa (type D) entitles a third-country national to enter and stay in the Republic of Slovenia during the entire visa validity period. A D-type visa also enables a third-country national to reside in the entire Schengen area for three months within a period of six months, and not during the entire visa validity period.
The legal basis for issuing a long-stay visa is defined in the Aliens Act (ZTuj-2, Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No. 50/2011).
A long-stay visa (type D) may be issued to certain categories of third-country nationals (a family member of an EEA citizen or Swiss national or third-country national who is a family member of a Slovenian national and wishes to stay in the Republic of Slovenia for the purposes of family reunification with an EEA citizen or Swiss or Slovenian national if he/she requires a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia; a sports trainer, professional athlete or private sports operator whose intention is to conclude a contract of employment or work with a club or sports organisation with its head office in the Republic of Slovenia; etc.), provided that the statutory requirements have been met (a valid travel document with a validity exceeding by at least three months the intended stay in the Republic of Slovenia; travel health insurance covering at least emergency healthcare in the Republic of Slovenia; sufficient funds corresponding to at least the basic amount of the minimum wage in the Republic of Slovenia).
In accordance with the Article 62 of the Law on the Administrative Procedure the procedure will be held in Slovenian language. All actions in the administrative procedure will be held in this language. A party, who does not understand the language in which the procedure is being held, has, in accordance to the seventh paragraf of Article 62 of the Law on the Administrative Procedure, the right to participate in the proceedings with help of an interpreter.
Based on the previous experience the embassy notifies the public with the names of the interpreters for Slovenian language, whose translations comply with the required translation standard of the Republic of Slovenia. list of translators
During the procedure, one of the purposes of the intended stay which serve as grounds for the issuing of a long-stay visa must also be provided, and there must be no reasons to refuse the issue of a visa.
